From IMDb:
Holmes is hired by Roland Carstairs to prevent the theft of the Star of Rhodesia, an enormous diamond owned by Carstairs' mother, Lady Margaret. Believing the diamond will be stolen on a train trip from London to Edinburgh, Holmes deftly switches diamonds with Lady Margaret while in her compartment. Soon after, Roland is murdered and the fake diamond is stolen. Red herrings abound as Holmes, aided by Dr. Watson and Inspector Lestrade, discover the murderer's hiding place and deduce that long-time foe Moriarty's henchman Colonel Sebastian Moran is somehow involved in the crime.

Pardon me, boy. Is that the Edinburgh choo choo?
This has the smallest budget of all the Universal Sherlock Holmes films, yet it is one of the best. Almost all the action takes place on the night train to Edinburgh, where a young man is mysteriously murdered in a locked day-coach compartment and a fabulous diamond stolen. The list of possible suspects is small, but solving this one won't be easy because the murderer must be caught and the gem recovered before the train reaches its destination. Inspector Lestrade (Dennis Hoey) is onboard, and as usual no help at all. The consummate professionals Rathbone and Bruce are as outstanding as ever. Fast-paced with a tight script, this nifty little mystery fills up every one of its fifty-nine minutes without a second wasted.

Don't read summary above
An OK Holmes flick, but the summary above has a spoiler that gives away a major surprise element of the movie.

The usual
Nigel Bruce, Basil Rathbone, couldn't be better.
What's creepier; that Holmes knows everything about everybody, or that the people he knows stuff about don't know it themselves?
